On this page we provide more details about cookies and how you can manage them in your browser.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that the websites you visit send to your browser and that are stored on your computer, phone or mobile device. Cookies allow the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) for a period of time, so you don't have to set them again every time you return to the site or browse from one page to another.
Types of cookies
There are several types of cookies, which can be classified according to their purpose, duration and who manages them:
By purpose
- Technical cookies: These are necessary for browsing and for the website to work properly. They make it possible to control traffic and data communication, identify the session, access restricted areas, submit requests to register for or take part in an event, use security features while browsing, store content for streaming video or sound, or share content via social networks.
- Personalisation cookies: These allow you to access the service with certain general features predefined according to a series of criteria on the user's device, such as language, the type of browser used to access the service, the regional settings from which the service is accessed, etc.
- Analytics cookies: These allow the tracking and analysis of the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms and to build browsing profiles of the users of those sites, applications and platforms, in order to make improvements based on the analysis of how users use the service.
- Advertising cookies: These allow the most efficient possible management of any advertising space the publisher has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the published content or how often the ads are shown.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: These store information about user behaviour obtained by continuously observing their browsing habits, which makes it possible to build a specific profile in order to show advertising based on it.
By duration
- Session cookies: These are cookies designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are usually used to store information that only needs to be kept to provide the service requested by the user on a single occasion (for example, a list of products purchased).
- Persistent cookies: These are a type of cookie in which the data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years.
By who manages them
- First-party cookies: These are sent to the user's device from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself, from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: These are sent to the user's device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the publisher but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
