Eleven hours to discover northern Dalmatia from Dubrovnik: the medieval walls of Ston, the vineyards of Pelješac and the walled town of Korčula, said to be the birthplace of Marco Polo.
We set off from Dubrovnik at dawn, heading north along the Adriatic coast until we reach Ston, the gateway to the Pelješac peninsula. Ston has the longest defensive walls in Europe after the Great Wall of China: 5.5 km built in the 14th century by the Republic of Ragusa to protect the salt pans. Free time to stroll around the old town, see the salt pans and, if you fancy it, try the famous Mali Ston oysters.
We cross the Pelješac peninsula on a scenic road through the vineyards. It's the most famous wine region in Dalmatia, known above all for its Plavac Mali reds (a cousin of Zinfandel). We can arrange a winery tasting for a supplement (let us know when you book).
Arrival in Orebić, where we board the ferry (15 min) and land on the island of Korčula. Three hours of free time to explore the walled Old Town, said to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. Its herringbone street plan was designed to shelter it from the wind. Marco Polo's House, St Mark's Cathedral, terraces overlooking the channel. Return to Dubrovnik in the afternoon.
We pick you up at your hotel or accommodation. We set off north along the Adriatic coast.
Arrival in Ston. Free time (45 min) to visit the longest defensive walls in Europe (5.5 km), the medieval salt pans and, if you fancy it, try the famous Mali Ston oysters.
We drive by minibus across the Pelješac peninsula through vineyards and countryside. The most famous wine region in Dalmatia (Plavac Mali, a cousin of Zinfandel). Optional: winery tasting for a supplement.
Arrival in Orebić and a short ferry crossing (15 min) to the island of Korčula.
3 hours of free time to explore the walled Old Town: St Mark's Cathedral, Marco Polo's House (optional, 4 €), the herringbone street plan, terraces overlooking the channel. Time for lunch at a local restaurant.
Ferry back to the Pelješac peninsula.
We head back to Dubrovnik along the coast road. Estimated arrival at your accommodation around 18:30-19:00.
Times are approximate and may be adjusted depending on the Orebić↔Korčula ferry departures and road traffic.

A really complete cultural tour. Ston surprised us a lot — the medieval walls are impressive and few people know about them. The Mali Ston oysters are one of the best memories of the trip. Then Korčula was the icing on the cake.
We fell in love with Korčula. The Marco Polo legend, the walled Old Town with its herringbone layout, the cathedral, the terraces overlooking the Pelješac channel... a little gem of the Adriatic. Worth every minute.
We asked for the optional wine tasting on Pelješac (15€/person) and it was absolutely worth it. We tried 5 different wines at a family winery, with explanations from the winemaker and cheese and cured meats on the side. Recommended.
Better than Montenegro if you want something within Croatia with no border crossing. More relaxed, more cultural, no passport queues. The stops at Ston, Pelješac and Korčula give you three very different atmospheres in a single day.
We ate oysters in Ston right at the seafront restaurant. 1€ an oyster, fresh, opened on the spot. If you like seafood, this alone justifies the trip. Then in Korčula another meal overlooking the channel.
The walls of Ston are a real surprise. 5.5 km of medieval fortifications, the longest in Europe after the Great Wall of China. We climbed a stretch of the wall (5€) and the views were worth every euro.
An educational and beautiful day. A local guide with loads of historical information: the Republic of Ragusa, the medieval salt pans, Marco Polo, Pelješac winemaking. Much more than a superficial sightseeing tour.
Family with kids (12 and 15). The kids got a bit bored in Ston but absolutely loved Korčula, especially Marco Polo's House. They loved the short ferry crossing too.
In August Korčula is busy but not overcrowded like Dubrovnik. We could stroll the medieval streets in peace and eat on a terrace without waiting. Much more pleasant than Dubrovnik's Old Town in summer.
A wine-loving couple. The tour is ideal if you combine it with a Plavac Mali tasting on Pelješac. The peninsula has vineyards on steep slopes facing the sea — spectacular scenery. Charming family wineries.
Mario answered all our questions personally on WhatsApp. The tour lived up to expectations: beautiful, cultural and full of good food. The short ferry to Korčula makes for a nice break in the middle of the day.
We got back to Dubrovnik around 19:00. A full day but not exhausting. The stops are comfortable and there's enough free time in each place. The air-conditioned minibus for the transfers was much appreciated in the July heat.
We'd recommend Korčula as a destination in its own right: on a future holiday we want to go back and stay 2-3 days. The island has much more to see than you can in one day.
The perfect cultural tour for anyone looking for something other than beaches. Walls, vineyards, ferry, a medieval walled town, local food (oysters, wine, fish). We'd recommend it to anyone spending a few days in Dubrovnik.

Ston (medieval walls, salt pans, Mali Ston oysters), Pelješac peninsula (vineyards and countryside), Orebić (ferry port), Korčula (walled town, said to be the birthplace of Marco Polo).
Korčula is one of the best-preserved walled towns in the Adriatic. Legend has it that it's the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous Venetian traveller. Its Old Town was built in a herringbone pattern to shelter it from the wind (the Bora from the north, the Maestral from the south).
Ston has the longest defensive walls in Europe (5.5 km) after the Great Wall of China. Built in the 14th century by the Republic of Ragusa to protect the salt pans, which are still in use. It's a spectacular and little-known stop.
Not included in the basic price, but we can arrange a tasting at a Pelješac winery for a supplement (15-20 €/person). Let us know when you book. Pelješac is famous for its red wines (Plavac Mali, a cousin of Californian Zinfandel).
Ston is famous for its oysters (the best in the Adriatic, farmed in Mali Ston Bay). Also mussels, fresh fish and local wine. There are restaurants with seafront terraces (15-30 € for a meal).
No, this tour is entirely within Croatia (EU). A national ID card is enough for EU citizens.
Yes, a short ferry (15 min) between Orebić (mainland, Pelješac peninsula) and the island of Korčula. Included in the price.
The local guide speaks English. Mario looks after you personally via WhatsApp before and after.
You pay only the 15 €/person deposit online via Stripe. The balance (40 €/person) is paid to the guide on the day of the tour, in cash (EUR) or via Revolut.
About 3 hours. Enough to stroll around the walled Old Town, see Marco Polo's supposed house (optional, 4 €), have lunch at a restaurant and enjoy a drink on a terrace overlooking the channel.
