Tours in Croatia is the tours brand of A Croacia, a pioneering Croatia travel portal. The project was born in 2005 as sobrecroacia.com, founded by Mario Fajt, a Croatian living in Spain. In 2014 the domain was renamed acroacia.com and a tour booking service with local Croatian skippers was added, with 100% personal customer support.

“I set up SobreCroacia.com in 2005, almost by accident. I’m Croatian, I was living in Spain and I realised there was absolutely nothing about Croatia written in Spanish. I put a form on the website, people started asking questions and I answered them. Those questions and answers stayed online and, almost by chance, a Croatia travel portal was born.”

— Mario Fajt, founder of A Croacia

Our story: 20 years of Croatia travel

2005 — SobreCroacia.com is born

A Croacia was born in 2005, when Croatia was starting to open up to international tourism and there was practically nothing in Spanish about the country. Mario Fajt, a Croatian living in Spain, spotted that gap and opened a simple website —sobrecroacia.com— with a basic contact form.

The idea was original: travellers posted their questions about Croatia, Mario answered them personally, and those questions and answers were archived on the website for the next people to find. Without planning it, that’s how the first collection of travel information about Croatia in Spanish was built, and the seed of what is today a community of travellers who visit the site every summer.

2014 — Rebrand to A Croacia and a tours service

In the early years the focus was on informing: how to get to Croatia from Spain or Latin America, what documents were needed, what to see in each city, where to stay, what to eat. Over time, travellers also started asking us to organise the experience for them directly.

At 2014 we took two natural steps at once: the project was renamed A Croacia (new domain acroacia.com, shorter and more memorable), and we started handling tour bookings with local Croatian skippers under the brand Tours in Croatia. Since then we’ve combined both activities: the general information website at acroacia.com, and the tours service on this subdomain excursiones.acroacia.com.

Today — Twenty years on

A lot has changed over the years: Croatia joined the European Union in 2013, and the Schengen area and the euro in 2023, and direct flights in season have multiplied. But the essence is still the same: looking after travellers the way a friend with local knowledge would, someone who knows the country from the inside.

How we work

Our model is hybrid and designed to give you the best of both worlds:

The result: you deal directly with us and receive a service run by locals who know exactly what they’re doing.

Our team in Croatia

We work with a steady team of local skippers and guides in each harbour:

All of them comply with Croatian regulations on tourist maritime activities: compulsory insurance, life jackets, approved safety equipment and a professional skipper’s licence.

Why choose us
